Thanksgiving Story

Nothing special usually happens on Thanksgiving at my house. If  I'm lucky someone from my family will come over for dinner, or my family will go over to their house. That doesn't happen all that often; however, when I was in middle school I had to wake up extra early to head to my school. The reason I woke up early on Thanksgiving during my middle school years was the fact that my middle school's choir was part of the Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade over in Pilly (my 8th grade year it was the Ikea Thanksgiving Parade).

My choir was one of the multiple choirs that was singing on the art museum steps towards the end of the parade. It was always a fun experience. I especially liked the period of time we were allowed into the Campbells Soup Tent. It is this giant tent that they set up on the grass on the circle infront of the museum. While inside you can get sample sized cups of Campbells soup. It was so tasty. After finishing in the soup tent we were always told we had to go back up to the top of the art museum steps to get ready to sing. Then they would send us running out onto the steps to sing. Once we were done singing they had us come off the steps and we would board the bus back to the school, and I would head home to take a nap.

This year my showchoir was asked to be part of the parade. We will be dancing on the main street along with a whole bunch of other people, mostly from colleges, to a medley of old music. We had our first rehearsal on the 21st, and let me tell you it was an experience that I will never forget. My showchoir, Harmony, was put into our spots, and they went over the dance a few times. The next thing we know they are playing the music, and we are dancing out hearts out. We had only learned a small part of the medley, and apparently they had wanted us to learn more of it; however, we didn't get the memo, so we only learned the one part. As a result they put us in the back of the group next to a fake DJ booth. A lot of the Harmony members were kind of upset by the fact that we had been given such a small part, but I was enjoying it to the fullest extent. We have our dress rehearsal tonight out on the street, it was raining last night so they moved us into a building to rehearse, and I simply can't wait to get out there and dance my butt off because it'll be the most fun I've had waking up early on a holiday.

(We perform around 9:45 for anybody that wants to watch us. The parade is on channel 6, and it's sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts this year. Please watch!)
