"The Lottery"

The story the "Lottery" is a short story that talks about people winning the lottery. It happens only once a year on June 27th. The people all live in a village where there is only about 300 people. It takes only two hours to pick a winner. They would put names into a black box and drawl the winning name from it. They read the names of the heads of families first then call the men up to drawl from the black box, but the are not to open the piece of paper until everyone has had a turn. By the time almost everyone had a piece of paper, people started to get very anxious. Then they finally announced the winnners after a long wait. After announcing the winner people started complaining saying that it wasn't fair because they didn't give people enough time to take any paper. At the end the prize shocked everyone. It was stones that had to be thrown at the winning family. The people of the village had to continue throwing stones at them until they died. So that is the story of the "Lottery". It ended up in a tragedy. People thought that they would win money or something nice, but instead it ended in death.
