1/6 Apartment

I just walked up the stairs and I am standing in front of Winston’s apartment door. I knock and am hoping he opens quickly because the bad smells are so strong. He took about 5 minutes, so I was very bothered by the odors of boiled cabbage and old rag mats. I walk inside and he asked me to sit. I was unsure if I should sit or not because the sofa was dirty and not in good conditions. But I didn’t want to make a big deal about it so I sat. I was very uncomfortable, but I acted like all was okay. I asked for something to drink like juice or soda, but all he had to give me was a couple drops of water. I know he was unhappy he couldn’t give me more to drink but he shouldn’t because it was not his fault that his food allowance was so small he only had food for one.
So then we talked for a while, he didn’t say much, I think this was out of fear. So I did most of the talking. Then the Telescreen came on with a special news report about the war. I could tell Winston didn’t care by his facial expressions, but he still listened so I did the same. They talked for a while about the progress and said they expect the war to be over in 6 months and out navy to win. Then it shut off so we continued to talk.
