Themes in 1984

A good theme for the book 1984 would be mind- control. I say it would be mind conrol because that is what the party tries to do toward everyone in Oceania, London. One example of mind control would be the two minute hate session. The two minute hate takes place in a room full of party memebers, including the inner party. The two minute hate is on the telescreen. On the telescreen there is eurasian soliders with a machine gun pointing at the people watching the telescreen. Then, Goldstein pops up in front of the eurasian solider. Then after him the eurasian army pops up in front of Goldstein. Goldstein is someone who was a member of the party, supposely trying to form something agianst Big BROTHER. It is also said that Goldtein had a secret group of people rebeling against Big Brother. During, the process of the two minute hate party members are yelling, shouting, and screaming at the tv against the eurasian soldier, the eurasian army, and Goldstein. Next, three slogans appear on the telescreen which say, "War is peace, Freedom is slavery, and Ignorance is strength." Before the two minute hate ends a picutre of BiG Brother pops up with words arround the picture saying,"Down With Brother." Next thing you know all people think about is the three slogans and the statement on Big Brother's poster that says, " Down with Big Brother," which are constantly, being repeated in their heads. For example, Winston was writing in his diary then all of a sudden he starts writing, " Down with Big Brother," over and over and over again.
