Summary Of 1984 For John

In the beginning of the book 1984, we meet a character named Winston Smith. The first chapter sets the mood for the whole book, it describes his apartment and the outside environment. Out the window we see the ministry of love, which is heavily guarded with barbed wire and machine guns. The inside of Winston's apartment isn't heavily described but I would imagine it to be very bland, we find out that there are T.V.'s almost every where used to both spy on you and brain wash you. We later find out the names of many buildings, two how ever are more important; the Ministry of Truth and the Ministry of Love. We find out later in the book about the different types of crimes such as thought crimes and face crimes. If you were convicted of a crime you were taken away at night and either vaporized, sent to a work camp, or imprisoned in the Ministry of Love for a year or two then released to denounce their crimes to the town and then be hung. Now you may be thinking, "why are they imprisoned in a building named the Ministry of Love?" Well everything in this book contradicts it's self. For example, the Ministry of Truth, which Winston works at; edits all the past newspaper articles to ensure "Big Brother" is always right. One girl stands out to Winston in particular, who he later falls in love with. The girls name is Julia, she works in the Fiction Department at the same building as Winston. Winston first notices her always around him and sitting behind him in the two minute hate. Later he notices her following him in town and the next day he sees her at work and she falls down, when Winston goes to help her up she passes him a note that says "...I LOVE YOU." He suspects it is a trap but doesn't want to risk losing her so he talks to her at lunch. At this point in the book they have a series of secret meetings and finally get away by going into the woods to "hang out". this is where I stoped reading so.....
