Who Knows

Does Winston die at the end of the book? Well the book doesn't clearly say, the book seems to say that as he was walking down the white corridor he gets shot in the back of the head. However, the very last paragraph says that he was crying at the picture of "Big Brother." How can you cry if you get shot in the back of the head? Is it possible that he started crying after he died? Or is the tears really blood, and he was bleeding while facing a poster of "Big Brother." I feel that the crying the author was referring to was Winston bleeding from the gun shot. Winston expected the gunshot, he was even waiting for it; he said that he could feel a sharp pain as the bullet entered his skull. And, lastly could the sharp pain be the feeling or betraying Julia and not being shot? I don't know, only the author knows.
