1984 does winston die

In the last paragraph of 1984 it explains the so called last moments of Winston. There are a few reasons why I don’t believe Winston dies. The first reason I don’t fell he dies is because in the book they state the room 101 is only to get people to love big brother bye scaring the with there greatest fear. It never says anything about killing them. If they where going to kill them I feel they would have mentioned it somewhere in the book. I think he was just imagining the gun and felt so scared that he thought it was really happening. Another reason why I do not think he dies is because it doesn’t actually say he dies. If the end of a book does not say that he actually dies than maybe it was all a dream or he was imagining it and he woke up the next day perfectly fine and lived the rest of his happy life.
