I just learnd that a vignette is a passage of  the page in the book. I learnd that the vignette gives you a hint about what you are about to read like for example ( ANNOUNCING THE DRY SEASON ) is the vignette of  the story on the page and the story was talking about how Lakshmi and her family was complaining about how hot it is were they live and how it like that every day. Sowhat they did was pray pray and pray to have some rain.
